The Power of Habit
An important attribute to life is understanding the power of habit. The reason for this is because we are all molded and formed by our habits. This is where finding your identity comes into play. You are who you are today because of your habits. I wrote in "Finding Your Identity" part 2 that you must think about what you want to be identified as in order to apply the proper rules and standards to your life. Want to be identified as smart? Pursue education. How about being a leader? Study management and leadership courses and read books about the greatest military commanders and top head coaches in sports. Rules and habits go hand-and-hand. Place proper rules and laws into your life and strong habits will take shape. You can see this unfold many times on sports teams. The team that implements rules and standards in practice daily and commits wholeheartedly to them, usually commits less penalties and wins more games. This would be the same for you. When you follow rules in your life, you create habits for your life. These habits will create a brand for you that people will identify you as, and you as well will begin to commit less penalties in your life. These penalties I am referring to are setbacks. Proper standards and rules will allow you to eliminate the things in your life that are setting you back.
How Do People See You?
What do people see you as? This may be a hard question to answer because the truth of your life is in the answer. Could you be known as someone who is always late to things? How about someone who is always there for your friends? Do yo lose your temper a lot? Or how about a person who has not been able to keep a relationship? These are all questions that must be faced with honesty. If you cannot be honest with yourself within finding your identity, you will remain stuck in a place you do not want to be. Philippians 3:13-14 says, But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Forgetting what is behind you is vital for growth. Paul stated this wonderfully. Anyone who cannot let go of the past is impeding their ability for growth and possibly hurting others with their outlook on things as well. Excepting change is key to growing into your identity.
Utilization of Habits
It is said that it takes about 18-254 days to create a habit. The range of this window illustrates how quick a habit can be formed, and also, how lengthy one can be shaped. Even if you do not have many rules in your life, you still have habits that have shaped your life. This can be a multitude of things. Think about the habits that have made you who you are today. Some may have just started and others may have possibly been a part of your life since you can remember. Some of these habits may be good, and others may not be so good. It is important if you want to find your identity, you focus on who you want to be and not on where you are. This will help you move in the right direction. It's all about your focus. Most people who are struggling in life, lack focus. Especially with social media, it has gotten much worse.
Focus Is Key
Let's say you would like to stop eating so much sugar. Instead of focusing on I need to stop eating more sugar, focus on how much healthy food you need to implement into you daily diet. Concentrate on the healthy meals you are going to eat daily. Focusing on the sugar not being a part of them. Create this picture and plan for yourself. Doing this places you on a road that will lead you to where you would like to end up. Finding your identity is all about what you would like to be identified as. Place proper eating rules to your daily life when it comes to what you will allow in your body. If you follow these rules, your identity will take shape. If you do not devise any rules to be governed by, you have a great chance of remaining with a struggle of consuming too much sugar and sweets in your daily life. Now, these are only examples, but if there is a lack of focus in your life on that which will improve your life, the identity you want in your life will continue to evade you.
The times are coming to an end. Jesus is coming back. The time is now to focus on what's right. The only thing that can heal and help you properly is the Bible. Got continues to prepare people the world for things that are to come. Many people are hearing it, but not believing it. Start your new identity today. It may not be popular, but it will save your life.
