Patterns to Destiny Part 3

During our lives we commit to things we have no idea later in our life we will not have the strength to break free from. Stealing, lying, sexual flings, unforgiveness, gossip, pornography, and many others. These are all designed to steal our strength, take our sight, and place us in a place of pure weakness -- just like Samson (Judges 16), and the Israelites (Judges 2), many times throughout the book of Judges. Some of the sins I named may seem pleasurable or beneficial given the instance, but they are all designed to take our strength and vision away.

Blindness is a weakness. When we are committing continuous acts of sin, we may not believe it or know it, but we are in darkness. In other words we cannot see the truth. Physical blindness is obvious, but spiritual blindness can last a lifetime without knowing. In the Bible the Lord allows Samson to be illustrated, and a main story, because He wants us to know even the strongest man ever to grace planet earth still lost his strength when he continued in sin. The Lord is showing us it does not matter who you are, when you walk in sin, the result is going to be the same. Samson did not know he became a servant to sin and could not stop his ways. We must understand that when we continue to sin, it is not by choice, it is because we are servants of it (John 8:34). The ultimate goal of the enemy is for us to begin to commit these acts on a daily, weekly, or continual basis that we become so weak we experience the same catastrophic effects as the Israelites in Judge 2 and Samson (Judges 16). This is why we must educate ourselves about the true severity and ramifications of sin. We must also understand God has already forgiven our sins, He's just waiting for us to come to him with a contrite heart about our shortcomings.

There is a theme in the book of Judges with the Israelites and Samson with their return to strength. Each cried out to God with a sincere heart of contrition for their sins and disobedience. These are the acts God wants from you to restore your sight and strength. These two examples in the bible about true repentance are what God is looking for. God cannot be fooled. He does not honor words. He honors a sincere heart. When we are sincere in our calling to God, he responds in the manner that is appropriate for that time. In Samson's case, God restored his strength, which gave him the ability to kill more Philistines in that climactic moment, than all of his slayings his entire life. With regards to the Israelites, God delivered them out of the hands of their enemies when they called out to God with full contrition and repentance for their sins. This is the kind of God we serve. He wants to hear our cry for our mistakes and return strength to those who truly repent for their actions.

Have you asked God, with a sincere heart, to forgive you for any sins you still have in your heart or are still committing? Unforgiveness, strife, gossiping, lies, sexual habits, drunkeness, foul language, etc.,? Does fear or humiliation keep you from asking God to forgive you? It is because this is what sin does to us. It makes us fearful and shameful to God and others of what we have done. It is important to know, God has already forgiven our sins. That's why he came and died on the cross.

In the garden when Adam and Eve sinned against God, they hid themselves from Him in shame. This is the first act of shame in the Bible due to a sinful act. A divide and separation immediately comes about with us and God when we sin. This is why  we feel a block that prevents us from being fully honest in our relationships with friends, marriage, parents, children, girlfriend/boyfriend, co-workers, etc. This is why repentance and asking God for forgiveness is so important. He has already done his job, now it's our turn. We all have been hiding from God in our shame just like Adam and Eve. Repentance to God and full contrition with a sincere heart is a sword that cuts off the bondage of sin and sets us free. The fear of approaching God keeps us shackled when we do not have to be.

Throughout the bible, God has freed the Jews from their bondage and helplessness many times. As you continue to witness the actions of individuals who sin continuously in the bible, the result of their continuous actions are the same. Lost vision and dissipated strength. The important thing is, we must call out to God from the bottom of our heart, and He will respond. Many times, God's children just except their consequences of their sinful ways and do not ask the Lord for forgiveness. This is not what He wants.  This keeps us remaining in a place of bondage that is not necessary. Our Heavenly Father knows there is an enemy out there deceiving His children. This is why the Bible was created and Jesus was sent to combat and destroy the enemies tactics. God freed the Israelites from the bondage and mistreatment of Pharaoh and the Egyptians. He will do the same for you. You just have to speak up.

Notice the powerless position the Israelites were in under Pharoah. It was a place of misery, unhappiness, and esssentially worthlessness to God. When we continue to commit sin our strength will be taken from us. In the situation with the Israelites, Pharoah took their strength and made them powerless. When we need help, just like the Israelites, we must call unto God. If we want to obtain the things God has for us, we must learn to do exactly what the Bible tells us. The Bible verse of 1 John 1:8-9 says, "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Wherever you are in your life, keep this Bible verse in mind at all times, and you will live a life of freedom in Christ Jesus. God wants to save you. He doesn't want to punish you. Get to know him. It will change your life. He already did His job, He just wants you to do yours.
