During this time of year many people are behind on their shopping and hoping everything turns out as perfect as possible for Christmas. Running through their list of things that must be met by the holiday deadline in hopes that it's all achieved. As the day becomes closer the clock becomes your enemy. Hysteria, panic and pressure begin to mount -- and so does the stress.
Throughout my life, I never understood why so many people were stressed during the holiday season. Until I began to realize what most people are placing the focus of the holiday on -- satisfying others. Many times people spend money they do not have, all to impress or attempt to live up to the standards or expectations of the gifts for the holidays. Christmas is not about others or who gets the most gifts. It is about the birth of Jesus. Gifts are okay, but not if it is your main focus of Christmas. The day means so much more.
The birth of Jesus is the most significant event to happen for mankind. It is the birth of a savior. A savior who is the key to the door of life. Jesus is the ultimate road map and power God gave to the world for absolute success on earth. Whoever wants this road map and power is able to access it because of the birth of Jesus. It is a free gift God gave to you with all your mess-ups, ignorance, and sins you've committed. You just have to accept the gift in your life -- the gift of salvation -- and follow the road map, which is the Bible. Receiving a gift is a wonderful thing, but there is no gift greater than the gift of salvation. This is something every believer who has a close relationship with Jesus Christ knows, because they experience this gift daily. Because they have the key to the door of life. Access has been granted into a room that no man can understand until he experiences who Jesus is and truly understands why Jesus was born and what he came into the earth to do. The key gives you access to a room that is full of strength, knowledge, understanding, wisdom, and so much more.
God is an awesome God. He has such a big heart that He sent his only son to be born and be sacrificed so you could have freedom through Him. He gave his only begotten son for us. John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." This verse is the most popular verse in the Bible because it is what the Bible is really all about -- a gift to mankind -- Jesus' birth. Jesus' birth changed everything. It was the beginning of the end of the enemy having power of death. Have you ever noticed the New testament isn't filled with much killing and destruction? If you did not know, the reason is because the people in the New Testament the Lord chose to highlight, are the people who received Jesus in their life and excepted the power of the Holy Spirit as well. These two things produce a life for you that makes it easier to accomplish and fulfill God's will for your life on earth. They give you dominion and power over sickness and disease. Power to heal the sick, raise the dead, and cast out demons. The same exact dominion and power Jesus had when he walked on the earth. It makes life so much more livable and productive. Jesus also said we will do greater things than he did. John 14:12, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to the Father." All because of Jesus' birth are these things possible today. His birth set so many things into motion.
People had been waiting thousands of years for the messiah to show up, because he is the answer to life. The souls of many men and women yearned for the day Jesus would come because they knew everything would change once he arrived, and it did. The course of life can change for anyone who receives Jesus today as well.
Christmas is about the birth of a Savior -- His name is Jesus. Christmas should be a day of worship and appreciation to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. December should be a full month of focusing on Jesus and all the wonderful things He has done for us. The gifts that should be given is a day of praise, acknowledgement, and thanksgiving to Jesus for what he has done for the world. Our hearts should pour out to Him and honor him on his birthday. Not overspending and stressing about how many gifts you have to give to people or how many you might receive. The world has high-jacked what the month of December is all about. You do not see commercials on TV about Jesus' birth, you see them about shopping deals and Santa Clause. It should be a month of showing who Jesus is and what He has done for us. It should be about finishing the year with Jesus, so He can make sure your next year is blessed and prosperous.
We must never forget that Jesus is the reason.. for the season!
