Everything you deal with, encounter, or focus on will bring you something -- good or bad. You cannot get around it. This is a fact of life. Your goal as a Christ follower is to learn this simple fact and place your focus on God and not the things that bring you stress, depression, confusion, and pain. It can be very challenging, but when you become disciplined in this action, your life will produce unimaginable fruit and peace. This specific action of focusing on the Lord, is designed to place you onto a road of the promises of God. “Set your affection on things above, not things on the earth.” (The King James Study Bible, Colossians. 3.2). In other words — keep your eyes on the Lord, who is above in heaven. The Bible is full of verses that inform readers about where to keep their focus and what will happen if you keep your focus in the right place, which is on the Lord. For many, the distractions and rigors of the world are too dominant in their life to learn the rewards of what focusing on the Lord provides.
People say that “focus is one of the keys to success.” That is correct, but there is more to it. The actual statement about focus should say, “what you focus on, will depend on your success.” This is the determining factor. It is where your eyes are located. Location is everything. It is the main focus when it comes to real estate and selling or purchasing a property. In baseball, location is pivotal to the hitter and the pitcher's success. What couples focus on in a marriage will determine their success or failure as well. Location is everything in life. It is truly the great secret to a successful life. This is why God wants you to focus on Him.
The location of your eyes and thoughts will render to you what the thing you are focused on has inside of it. This can be tricky because some things have a wonderful look on the outside, but retain nothing good on the inside. You may have experienced this in life with someone you may have met or know right now. Great on the outside, but very destructive personality toward others. Many people get scammed or tricked because of what they see on the exterior of something. Jesus spoke to the Pharisees about their image and false portrayal on the outside and possessing death and disgusting things on the inside. "Woe unto you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean." (New International Version, Matthew. 23.27). Jesus is educating anyone who can get the revelation in this verse. He's letting us know, there are people on earth that intentionally make the outside look flawless, but the inside is full of grotesque and vial things.
Focus is very important and dangerous on both sides of the coin. You might be thinking, why is it dangerous on both sides of the coin? If you focus on the wrong things or wrong person it can cause sickness, confusion, depression, anger, hate, misguidance, haughtiness, and much more. This is dangerous. On the other hand, what you focus on can bring you confidence, fortitude, good health, respect, finances, smarts, acknowledgement, stability, and much more. This is dangerous too. It is probably self-explanatory why focusing on the wrong things are dangerous. The reason why focusing on the right things are dangerous is because you become unstoppable. Anyone who is unstoppable is dangerous. Jesus was unstoppable because He kept his eyes on the Lord. The apostle Paul was unstoppable for the same reasons. That makes you dangerous. You can only be unstoppable with the Word of God. There have been plenty of people who have thought they were unstoppable and experienced a troubling end. When you become unstoppable through God, humility, kindness, longsuffering, mercy are some of the focal points to your power — not pride, vanity, or lying. Many people are focusing in life, but it is on the wrong things. This is the main reason for many disappointments.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (The New International Version, Matthew. 11.30). Jesus shares this in Matthew 11:30 because He is speaking about a promise that comes with focusing on him. He knows the burdens of the world are stressful and very heavy. As a father, God does not place heavy burdens on his children like parents on earth do at times. His yoke is easy and his burden is light. To be able to learn how easy His yoke is and experience the Lord’s light burden, it takes making a decision of focus and eye location. That decision has to do with committing your life to God.
Focusing is not easy because there are many exterior forces and people trying to distract you and take your eyes off of what is important — especially in the day and age of social media. The decision to receive what the Lord has is not easy because it takes courage, faith, and a discipline that most people do not possess. Peer pressure can keep you from focusing on what is important in life as well. Having the wrong people a part of your life will cause their needs and their focus to continuously come in between or butt heads with focus that needs to be on the Lord to better your life. Friends and family can be the biggest inhibitors of success. It takes an unrelenting mind to stay focused on the Lord when friends and family have other things they want for your life. You must have strength to win the battle of focus. The only way you will gain the strength is from reading the Word and staying connected to God. This is focus.
If you read the Bible you will notice a pattern and a result that comes with every person who focused on the Lord and a different pattern for those that do not or took their eyes off of Him. Those who kept their eyes on the Lord reaped the blessings and protection of the Lord. Those who did not reaped devastation, sadness, and sometimes even premature demise. Taking your eyes off the Lord is the same as taking your eyes off the road when you are driving. You may not crash right away, but you are waiting for an inevitable accident. So keep your eyes on the Lord so all of the blessings and promises the Bible has for you can manifest in your life.
